Tillage radish contributes to a seed mix through its deep tap root, however when compared with other brassicas rather than being focused on biomass or feed, tillage radish primarily functions as a soil conditioner, scavenging nitrate from deep soil layers and reducing leaching. In mixed swards, it complements shallow-rooted and fibrous-rooted species by increasing rooting depth diversity and enhancing overall nutrient retention.
